See You At The Pole

The 2009 theme for See You At The Pole comes from the greatest revivals and awakenings in the Old Testament- all begun by a teenager who was king at the time, Josiah. 2 Kings 22:13 “Go and pray to God for me and for the people…”

Students committed to impact their school for Christ

See You At The Pole is simply a time of prayer, early in the school year, for students to lift their friends, family, teachers, coaches, community and school up in prayer around their school flagpole. It is a student initiated, student organized, student led time of prayer. SYATP is this Wednesday, September 23 at 7:00 am.

Retreat Weekend
Hey students, we're leaving for Grindstone at 6:00 pm on Friday night, September 18 (meet at South Campus). The theme this year is Under Construction: God at Work! The speaker is Jared Carlson, who is the senior high pastor at Salem Baptist Church in New Brighton. Jared also works with Christian Ministries International as a conference and youth speaker. He has a dynamic passionate style of communicating that captivates his audience. His love for Christ and heart for evangelism is clearly reflected in his messages and talks. Any questions.... Soup's On, On Sunday

You don't want to miss out on our Annual Soup Sunday! Come for worship and stay for soup and fellowship, this Sunday, September 20 (remember our worship gathering is at 10:30 am). There will be a wide assortment of soups and chili, along with homemade bread... mmm!

Upcoming Concert
Our Redeemer Lutheran Church invites the community to more than just a concert! On Saturday, September 19 at 7:00 pm the Carpenter's Tools Inc. Music Ministries will present a full night of music, skits, testimonies and a few surprises! This is a free concert for the whole family and community! The Carpenter's Tools Inc. is a group of young adults called to serve and share the Gospel of Christ through music, worship and skits. They are committed to encourgaging the church, challenging Christians to loving action, and sharing the hope of Christ.

Walk for the Hungry

A significant portion of our community needs our help. In a response to this need, the 1st Annual Walk for the Hungry has been organized. Writing Dates
Your input needed!

When I first began writing articles, bulletin and newsletter announcements, I had so much to learn (and still do!). One of the questions that arose in my mind is how to write dates correctly in various announcements. I had been use to seeing dates written as the following: "The birthday party is on Saturday, September 19th". My understanding is in adding a 'th' a 'st' or a 'rd' to the number, making it an ordinal number, you would write it this way: "The birthday party is on Saturday, the 19th of September". The rule of thumb is if the day is written before the month, it should be written as an ordinal number. If the day is written after the month it should be written as a cardinal number such as: "The birthday party is on Saturday, September 19."

In checking with a reference manual and on various sites on the internet on this particular subject I found this:

"There are two kinds of numbers you can use to talk about a specific day: an ordinal number and a cardinal number. Cardinal numbers represent amounts like one, two, and three. Ordinal numbers represent a place in a series like first, second, and third. When you're writing out a date like January 1, 2009, the day is a cardinal number. So you should never write January1st, 2008. The weird thing though is when you're speaking, even though it is written as January 1, you say, "January first" (1). So when you are reading a date that is written January 1, 2008, you say "January first, two thousand eight." (That's probably why a lot of people get confused about how to write it). The instance where it is okay to use an ordinal number is when you are writing the 1st of January, because you are placing the day in a series: of all the days in January, this day is the first. For example, your invitations could say, "Please join us for a party on the first of January." In that case, it's correct to use the ordinal number first."

Now this is what I want to know... it doesn't matter if I'm right or wrong, I just want to know if I'm understanding the correct way to write dates based on the information above. It all sounds silly doesn't it? But, when you have to write as many dates as I do, you want to get it right! So all that to say, I want your comments in any way, shape or form... email me or send me a comment (don't worry, I won't post it) and let me know if I'm understanding the above information correctly. Smiling Faces These smiling faces are because they know it's Fall Kick-Off Week at Pine City EFC and that means Awana starts along with Sunday School! Below are dates and times of our fall activities:

Sunday School for all ages starts this Sunday at 9:15 am. We will all meet together in the Worship Center at the church so that the teachers for the 2009-10 year will be introduced
Next Sunday, and for the remainder of the fall, Sunday School will begin at 9:30 am.

Fall Worship has now changed to 10:30 am at the Lighthouse.

Awana starts this Wednesday, September 16, 6:00 -7:30 pm, for children 4 years old through 6th grade. 2009-2010 registration forms are now available at the Awana Registration table at the Lighthouse or in the church office. Registration fee same as last year, $20. Chris Johnson is this year’s Awana Commander… thank you Chris!

On Wednesday, September 23, 6:00-7:30 pm, our Jr. & Sr. High Student Ministries will kick off a new year!

Introducing
We just have to introduce to you Dan Anderson and his wife Kristen's new baby boy, Thomas Lauren. (Dan grew up in Pine City EFC and now lives in Minneapolis. The proud grandparents are Lauren and Nancy Anderson). Below is a picture of Dan and Thomas with a note from Dan about their baby's arrival. We are so happy for them. Congratulations you guys!

Hello All,
I am pleased to introduce Thomas Lauren Anderson! Thomas was born on Wednesday, September 9, at 7:24 am. He is 8 lbs 2 oz and is 21 inches long. He is verrrry active and came to us with a full head of hair.Both baby and Kristin are doing extremely well. Thanks for all the prayers, blessings, and thoughts you've outpoured on us these last couple days!
