Mission Trip Update

Tim Geisler is part of a group of eight people from Pine City, Hinckley and Cloquet Lutheran Churches (2 pastors, 3 carpenters, 1 nurse and 1 retired couple). The group flew into San Pedro Sula and then were transported by jeeps for two hours to the highlands of western Honduras. A 70 plus year old woman named Delores at the mission is in charge of their daily trips to various remote villages.

Last Tuesday the group built tables, chairs and shelves. Seven of them left Thursday morning for one of the remote villages in the mountains. There they will build desks for the school and beds for the children of the village. They will also distribute school supplies for both the children and teacher.

Dennis (a retired pastor from Cloquet) flew home Thursday, as his wife just learned on Tuesday that she has cancer. Dennis has gone to Honduras for over 20 years and is very fluent in Spanish. Pray for Dennis and his wife. Please also for the team... that things will go smoothly with their interpreters now that Dennis is gone.
Happy Birthday to Pastor Darren!

We all hope you have a wonderful day....

Hope in Jesus Christ is their testimony. Teen Challenge is coming again this year to Pine City EFC on Sunday, March 8 at 10:15 am (during our worship gathering). Teen Challenge is a Christian, long-term, in-patient treatment program for drug and alcohol addictions. The men will sing and share testimonies of God’s love and faithfulness in helping them out of darkness. We want to encourage everyone to attend. This is an opportunity to encourage these young men on their recovery journey! Invite your family and friends to this very special event!
Keep in prayer those down under

As most of you know, part of Australia was hit by wildfires this week. Reports are that over 180 people lost their lives in the fire. Many, many wildlife were killed. Here is a story about a firefighter helping a little koala bear who endured the fire but suffering from scorched paws. Go to the story and pray for those affected by the fire.

Valentine Fondant Cake Class

Cake decorating, just in time for Valentine’s Day! Make a cake for your sweetheart using fondant icing. Loreal Lindstrom will share this technique with us on Thursday, February 12 @ 5:30 pm, at the Lighthouse. The cost of this class is $5 which covers the cost of the fondant, frosting and coloring.

Below is a list of items to bring with you:
An apron
Two baked cake rounds either 8” or 9”
Pizza cutter
Rolling pin
Cake decorating spatula (optional)
Large bowl (preferably glass)
Plate (for your finished cake to set on)
Small heart shaped cookie cutters (if you have any)

Rolled fondant is commonly used to decorate wedding cakes. This gives the cakes a smooth appearance. The recipe that Loreal will share with you is easy to make, tasty, and great to work with - beautiful on the cake. You will amaze your family with your skills in the kitchen!

Below is another beautiful cake Loreal made and decorated using fondant. Bob Lindstrom turned 70 years old in January. Happy Birthday, Bob! Take a look at the special John (Bob) Deere cake Loreal made for her father-in-law!

A New Thing

It was 72 degrees this weekend in Kansas City, Missouri. We made a quick trip to check out hotel sites for our Minnesota guests we are hosting for our son’s (David) wedding in June. The seven hour trip we took with our other son Paul, and his wife Katie, gave us a quantity of time to talk and think.

We discussed how the Lord is working and the “new things” that are happening in our church body. I was reminded of the passage of scripture in Isaiah, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”

This past week at PCEFC we opened up the doors to our newly formed ministry, “The Clothing Shelf”, started by the Evangelism & Missions Committee of our church. We have had a
tremendous response to this ministry. Numerous families and individuals from the community have stopped by to either bring a donation or to gather items they or family members need to keep warm this winter. We have had countless comments of gratitude and appreciation for this service. Thank you everyone! Keep passing the word along!

In the near future PCEFC will take a look at the probability of lovingly reaching out to those in need of shelter and a place to sleep at night. Pine City, our mission field, is to all that need “a cup of cold water”.

Because we know it is important to build into lives and encourage one another to grow strong in our faith, we are encouraging each other to read and memorize scripture. God’s Word is powerful. It changes lives.

This is what the Lord says— “ I am doing a new thing…. so the people may proclaim my praise.”
